Description
The interior surface is decorated in blue and gold on white glazing and has an elegant composition formed by a medallion with geometric motif at the bottom, surrounded by two horizontal bands: one of atauriques (plant motif) and the other of pines. The reverse has geometric decoration: gold on white, and arranged in horizontal bands. The upper edge has a band of ears of wheat followed by wavy lines. It is finished off with fine strokes in a radial shape. It has a ring-shaped foot and a circle in the centre of the support. Andalusian gold earthenware reached its peak during the kingdom of Granada although it was already being manufactured some centuries previously. One of the kingdom’s most notable productions was the so-called “Alhambra jugs or vessels”, one of which (from Cartuja de Jerez) is housed at the National Museum of Archaeology.
