Description
Vessel with oval body and thin neck, decorated with four circles alternating flowers (irises) and stylised birds in reddish-brown paint. The neck is decorated with two parallel horizontal lines, and rain drops. The everted and flat rim has radial marks. The two circles where the handles meet the neck are separated by small ovals with strokes in the interior. The incomplete state of the piece prevents us from establishing whether it had one or two handles. The closest parallels in terms of shape are found in the collection of ceramics found in the Palatine city of Madinat al-Zahra in Cordoba. The decorative motifs can be found on different materials such as ivories, cloth or plaster throughout much of the Omeya period.
