Description
Tricolour jug with stylised plant motifs on the body and neck. This type is known as a “butterfly jug” due to a certain similarity between the floral design and these particular insects. This piece imitates the works that were being made in Talavera de la Reina and Puente del Arzobispo in both shape and decoration. Due to the quality of the glaze and its rare virtuosity, this object must be considered a work from the Triana workshops in Seville. Copying fashionable products was a common practice in the Modern Age. These imitations were known as “loza contrahecha” ('fake pottery').
