Description
Slightly hemispheric bowl with thickened inside rim and curved base. The rim and a wide band across the exterior surface are decorated with zig-zag motifs between narrow diagonal stripes made by using a comb. Campaniform ceramics spread rapidly across Western Europe at the end of the Copper Age, but not much of it was found in collections at Chalcolithic sites. It is of a limited kind, with standardised forms (bell-shaped urns, bowls, pans) and decorations. Its carefully modelled and finished nature suggests that these were luxury objects used for special social or ceremonial occasions.
