Description
The large ataifors were used as dishes at the table to present communal food. It is glazed on each face, both to facilitate cleaning and increase its aesthetic value. Such value increases further by the item’s expression for good wishes al-gibta (prosperity, good fortune) on it, surrounded by stylised plant motifs. The owners evidently had high regard for this object as once broken it was restored with lañas (small lead or leather staples, of which only the matching holes remain).
